46% of U.S. Small Businesses Don’t Have a Website – Ecommerce Archives
Of the 352 owners or managers of small businesses interviewed by Clutch Across the United States and from companies with fewer than 10 employees and less than $ 1 million in annual revenue, 46% do not have a website.
The main excuse for not having a website was that it was irrelevant to their business. However, when Clutch asked industry experts in which industries a website wouldn’t be relevant, they couldn’t think of any.
“No matter what type of business you run, if you have clients, you need to have some sort of information online, at least a page describing who you are and offering contact information,” says Max. Elman, founder of Razorfrog website design. “It is essential that this information is indexed and presented to those who are looking for you, otherwise you are relying on third parties. Even if you only have a few clients a year, or think people won’t be looking for your type of service, there will be someone looking for you, and you should try to make their process easier. “
Other excuses for not having a website ranged from prohibitive cost (30%) or having their online presence take the form of a social media presence instead of a website (12%) to a lack of technical knowledge (10%).
“It’s always surprising that so many businesses don’t have a website. It ignores the fact that most Americans are on the Web and consult it, ”says Rehan Fernando, CEO of EIGHT25MEDIA. “Studies have shown that over 70-80% of people research a business on the web before making a purchasing decision, usually by visiting its website. Even having a one page website can build credibility. It shows that the business is real and has taken the time to present. “
The good news is that 24% of those who don’t have a website plan to have one at least by the end of 2017.
If you are a new tech business owner, it is in your best interest to hire a professional to create and design your website. Although it can be expensive, consider other funding methods! Securities lending can be a great and cost effective way to pay for these services.
